Prenatal Exposure to Cannabis, Antidepressants, Or Maternal Depression
Prenatal Exposure to Cannabis, Antidepressants, Or Maternal Depression: Impact on Emotional Regulation in Infants at 6 Months of Age
Participating Sites and National Principal Investigator
Dr. Annie Ouellet
What Do We Want To Know?
This project examines whether exposure to cannabis or antidepressants during pregnancy, as well as maternal depression, affects a baby’s ability to regulate emotions at 6 months of age. It also looks at whether the post-birth home environment, including parental mental health and bonding, can influence these outcomes.
How Are We Doing It?
This study follows over 400 babies from prenatal to about 6 months of age. We are comparing babies exposed before birth to cannabis, antidepressants, or maternal depression with those who were not exposed. We observe how babies respond to emotional situations and examine whether the home environment after birth influences these effects.
How Is The Study Going?
We are working with expert teams to develop video validation and coding for the project that will be used to assess the babies’ emotions.
Who Is Included?
This study follows babies from prenatal to about 6 months of age.
