What Do We Want To Know?

This national initiative brings together researchers, youth partners, caregivers, and community collaborators to co-develop and implement a toolkit that supports culturally safe and meaningful youth engagement in health research.

The initiative will advance reconciliation by centering Indigenous and Marginalized Youth (IMY) perspectives in research and building capacity among youth from Indigenous and diverse backgrounds to lead research and advocacy aimed at improving healthcare experiences and outcomes.

How Are We Doing It?

This project aims to address barriers to IMY engagement in research by:

  • Adapting educational training materials and delivering training for IMY and child health researchers

  • Creating IMY Advisory Circles for Research (IMYACRs)

  • Developing a Community of Practice (CoP) to support collaboration between IMY and researchers and enhance capacity for meaningful research engagement

How Is The Project Going?

The team is working on developing their toolkit and research training.

Who Is Included?

This study was designed with input from Indigenous youth and family services in Canadian children's hospitals.
